Interdisciplinary
EDU-1400 Study of Disabilities
At the end of this course our instructor required a final essay that discussed the bias's, discriminations, and exclusions of individuals who have disabilities that occur within society. We were also required to suggest possible ways to change the negative attitudes that accompany these issues as well as reflect on the experiences and understanding that we had acquired throughout the course. The attachment below is this final assignment and is a great example of the thoughts that have gone through my mind as it expanded with new, useful, and beneficial information regarding societies equals--the disabled.

Reflection
Looking back on my experiences throughout this course I can honestly say that it has been one of the most influential courses that I have ever taken. In the first place, our instructor, Brett Campbell, M.S.W., C.S.W., was simply an incredible example. Instructing with his disability, blindness, he reflected the spirit of the whole educational experience. He gave a personal touch to the presented material and made me feel personally duty bound to prevent, within my power, any further discrimination and inequitable treatment towards individuals with disabilities.
Throughout this course we had the opportunity to view several videos that rehearsed some of the history and abuses inflicted upon individuals with disabilities. We also studied the history of government involvement in their discrimination as well as positive governmental advances in their cause. This included a study of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which congress passed in 1990. Each student had the "PRIVELEGE" to volunteer at an organization that assists individuals with disabilities and report on their experience. All in all this was an incredible experience and I feel to give most of the credit to our instructor.
